Universal Metalcraft Inc. is of continuous and successful evolution. Founded in 1972 as M.W.Design as a part-time operation, President Viktor Wenstrom designed machines and specialized equipment for a variety of companies.

Within a couple of years, he incorporated Universal Metalcraft Inc. with a purchase of a machine shop and a workforce of 6. Once the Chief engineer of Thermo Electric Inc. and with the joining of his son, Eric, an NJIT Graduate, Universal Metalcraft has transformed a small shop into one of the leading manufacturers.

Universal MetalCraft is a full-fledged manufacturing facility with the continuous adoption of the latest technological advances available to the industry. Universal MetalCraft has experienced steady growth and has been consistently dedicated to advancing reliable methods of manufacturing.

Now In less than an acre of space, we have over 40 CNC’s, a dozen gear cutting machines, climate-controlled inspection room with state of the art CMM and a TEAM of over 20 individuals.

We specialize in close tolerance complex precision CNC machining of developmental prototypes to full production runs, with specially designed Software, electromechanical and hydraulic assembly and testing. Services are performed utilizing the latest CAD/CAM equipment.

Our
History

Viktor Wenstrom was born in Russia (Ukraine) and is from Swedish Decent. During the war, his father was mobilized by Krupp Industries, a German Company which took over the steel industry in Ukraine. They ended up in Germany in 1945 where Viktor attended the Machine Bau School in Ansbach. After receiving a visa he immigrated to the United States in 1959.

Viktor joined the National Guard Engineer Core in New Jersey. He attended Newark College of Engineering (NJIT) at night for mechanical engineering. While attending college he worked for Thermo Electric Company, who paid for his tuition while working there. He worked as a Designer and later Chief Engineer. He worked there for 20 years.

In 1972 he started his own company “Universal Metalcraft, Inc.” in designing and building specialized machinery. One of his product lines was for the Automobile Brake Industry. He designed and built various machines: Disc Pad Drilling Machine, Disc Pad Riveting Machine, Grinding Machine, or whatever the customer specified. He worked with clients such as Allied Bendix, General Motors, Kelsey Hayes, Brake Parts of America, Abex and other companies. These machines are used in the United States, Mexico, Japan, and South America.
